Use of Grant Funding

  • For this grant cycle, the Gardinier Environmental Fund will fund energy projects focused on energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy. Projects can fall into the following categories:  innovative energy projects; energy resiliency including microgrids and/or energy storage; renewable energy installations; electric vehicle policies, programs, and infrastructure; building efficiency upgrades; energy education projects; and energy studies and engineering.
  • Proposed projects that would be eligible for funding or rebates from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Clean Energy Program (NJCEP), regional utility company programs, or other state government incentive programs must leverage these resources in addition to the Sustainable Jersey small grant as part of the overall project budget. LIGHTING UPGRADES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING.

Tips for a Successful Grant Application

Successful grant applications often represent innovative projects underway throughout the state, and can act as a model and generate ideas for other municipalities.  Always make sure to carefully review the evaluation criteria, as this is what the selection committee bases its application reviews on.

Review the Sustainability Summit Presentation, "Funding Helps! Tips for a Successful Grant Application," to examine the key components of the evaluation criteria, and also read about some of the lessons learned from past grant projects.  Keep these things in mind as you develop your grant proposal so that it is clear, concise, and doable within the performance period.
