Media Advisory: NJ School Districts to Receive $180,000 in Grants for Sustainability Projects

Grant recipients from 16 counties: Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Ocean, Passaic, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris and Salem

WHAT: Event to announce the 46 New Jersey school districts and schools selected to receive grants for sustainable projects. Funded by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Small Grants Program will award grants for projects that link student learning and sustainability efforts to rain gardens, outdoor learning classrooms, a winter greenhouse, an aquaponics system, native habitat gardens, sustainability curriculum and more. Grant proposals were judged by an independent Blue Ribbon Selection Committee.

Eleven $10,000 grants and thirty-five $2,000 grants will be distributed. Green teams and teachers from the schools receiving grants will be in attendance and available for interviews and photos.

Sustainable Jersey for Schools representatives will announce the districts and schools receiving grants; school representatives are invited to accept the awards.

  • Donna Drewes, Co-Director, Sustainable Jersey

  • Select district superintendents, principals and local union representatives from schools receiving the $10,000 grants
