Five NJ Schools Awarded Education for Sustainability Scholarships

on Jun 27, 2016

Today, Sustainable Jersey for Schools announced the five New Jersey schoolstraining that are the recipients of an Education for Sustainability (EfS) curriculum design studio scholarship. The training scholarships were offered to schools and districts registered with the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program and the subsidized training registration fee was made possible through a grant from The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.

Scholarship recipients will participate in a five-day EfS Curriculum Design Studio. To solve problems unique to the 21st century, the next generation of students requires an education that reflects a modern sensibility,” said Jaimie P. Cloud, founder and president of the Cloud Institute for Sustainability Education. “Embedding the lens of sustainability into the curriculum and culture of a school can inspire children to think about the world and our relationship to it with fresh eyes and an open mind,” she added. Jaime Cloud will lead the training course that will take place at Duke Farms from June 27 through July 1.

“Supporting schools by training teachers and curriculum supervisors on education for sustainability is a unique opportunity,” said Sustainable Jersey Co-Director Donna Drewes. “By partnering with the Cloud Institute to provide this training, we hope these participants will leverage insights gained from the course into guidance that will enhance their school’s participation in Sustainable Jersey for Schools and result in new knowledge and ways of thinking at the school level.”

The scholarship recipients submitted an application that was reviewed by Sustainable Jersey for Schools. Since the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program launch in October 2014, 479 schools and 199 school districts have registered for the certification program.
