Sustainable Jersey for Schools (SJS) has formed the Sustainable Jersey Digital Schools program. Announced on June 2, the program was created in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey School Boards Association and endorsed by New Jersey Leadership for Educational Excellence. It builds on the legacy of the Future Ready Schools - New Jersey (FRS-NJ) program by integrating FRS-NJ topical areas and content into the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification program, which the original FRS-NJ program was modeled after.
The first certification cycle for recognition as a Digital School within the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification program begins on January 15, 2021. Join us to learn how schools can participate in this new program. We’ll review the new slate of Sustainable Jersey for Schools Actions that encompass the former FRS-NJ indicators and discuss the Digital Schools recognition process for SJS certified schools, FRS-NJ certified schools, as well as all other New Jersey public schools.

This year, Ocean Fun Days is celebrating their 17th year with 17 days of virtual family fun and education. Founding event partners, New Jersey Natural Gas and the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium are pleased to once again present this popular family focused annual event. Traditionally, this event has been held at Island Beach State Park and Sandy Hook but we have adapted the format to allow you to participate virtually. This year, enjoy Ocean Fun Days right from your own home or classroom.
Starting October 10, online visitors will find video presentations from more than 30 exhibitors showcasing eco-friendly fun focused on ocean discovery, coastal stewardship and energy conservation. Several presentations provide fascinating information about some of our most important local animals, including Horseshoe Crabs and Diamondback Terrapin turtles. There will also be videos on boating safety and saving energy and the environment. In addition, you’ll find other fun activities like word searches, crossword puzzles, coloring pages, and more. Plus, the popular energy scavenger hunt will also be virtual this year – with the chance to win a cool prize pack.
Online experiments from college professors and current research being done at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, Fisheries Lab provide a great resource for teachers to share with students in their virtual classrooms. There are plenty of additional resources, including worksheets, and other learning tools for educators and parents alike
Starting October 10, and running for 17 days through October 26, visit oceanfundays.org to join in the fun!

COVID-19 Update for Schools (will cover both K-12 and higher ed)Online
This fall, many schools and colleges have welcomed students to their buildings in a back-to-school season like never before. COVID-19 has completely changed the way schools and colleges are cleaned and maintained, and it looks like many of the changes the pandemic has caused are here to stay. This free webinar series is designed to help custodial teams stay informed and continue to learn from their peers as they reflect on lessons learned from August and September reopenings. The webinars will feature HGSC Committee members who will share their reopening success stories, biggest challenges and provide real-time answers to your questions.
The Healthy Green Schools & Colleges Committee is made up of facility and custodial leadership from K-12 school districts, universities and community colleges across the country that have executed award-winning green cleaning programs.
A link to the webinar recording will be emailed to anyone who registers, even if they cannot attend the live webinar.
These webinars relate to the Green Cleaning Training & Education Programs action in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification program.
