The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) Annual Workshop offers more than 200 individual sessions to New Jersey's local school leaders. During Workshop, attend one of the Sustainable Jersey for Schools sessions and learn about best practices in schools and districts across the state. 11:30-1:00, Rm 305/306 21st Century Schools - In this session, John Henry, Heather McCall and Jaimie Cloud will discuss exemplary schools and districts actions that are going beyond the resolution and the “chasing points” mentality and demonstrating a level of 21st century thinking that can accelerate the shift toward healthy people, regenerative ecosystems and prosperous communities.
1:30-2:30, Rm 308 The Grass is Greener with Grants- Sustainable Jersey for Schools has provided over $1.8 million in grants to participating schools for over 450 projects. Learn about the exciting projects being undertaken by schools & districts and how your district can obtain funding for sustainability projects.
3:00-4:00, Rm 308 Sustainability Champions- Learn from schools and districts that are in the forefront of sustainability. This session will highlight best practices and case studies from this year's award-winning districts with the most certification points in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Program. Elementary Champion: George L. Catrambone Elementary- Long Branch School District
Middle School Champion: Christa McAuliffe Middle School- Jackson Township School District
High School Champion: Brimm Medical Arts High School- Camden City Public Schools
11:00-12:00, Rm 308 Declaring War on Waste- This program will provide an overview of the newly released NJDEP School Food Waste Guidelines and provide creative strategies for reducing cafeteria waste.
1:30-2:30, Rm 308 Learning From Energy Exemplars- This session will feature case studies of schools utilizing Energy Tracking and Management to inform decision making about energy use and efficiency upgrades. We will learn how to save money in school operations by focusing on energy. Programs that engage students, such as the PowerSave program, can not only promote energy conservation in the school, but students can bring their learning home to help community residents understand their energy use and take action to reduce their energy bills. Updates on NJCEP programs will be provided in this session.
