NJ Sustainable School Efforts Advance: 18 Schools and Districts Awarded Grants

Funded by the PSEG Foundation, grants help build healthy, resilient and sustainable schools
Today, Sustainable Jersey for Schools announced the 18 New Jersey schools and school districts selected to receive a Sustainable Jersey grant funded by the PSEG Foundation. Eight $10,000 grants and ten $2,000 grants were distributed to schools in ten New Jersey counties.
The grant awards will fund a range of projects including a mobile S.T.E.M. laboratory; a garden to table initiative; a waterfront educational program; outdoor classrooms and hydroponic gardens; a disposable plastic reduction and educational campaign; environmental justice exploration in the classroom; general green team support and more.
“Congratulations to the schools and districts that received grant funding today. The projects funded in this grant cycle will have a significant catalyzing impact on the school communities while serving to prepare students for the challenges they will face in the future,” said Randall Solomon, executive director for Sustainable Jersey. “These grants build capacity as schools move sustainability programs forward.”
The PSEG Foundation has contributed $2.5 million dollars in funding to the Sustainable Jersey grants program for municipalities and schools. “The PSEG Foundation is committed to helping build sustainable communities by empowering and investing in the people, environment and infrastructure of the communities we serve,” said Calvin Ledford, PSEG director of Corporate Social Responsibility and president of the PSEG Foundation. “Supporting Sustainable Jersey and local municipalities, schools and school districts puts resources where they’re needed to positively impact the environment and local communities, having a lasting impact on neighborhoods throughout New Jersey.”
SUSTAINABLE JERSEY FOR SCHOOLS GRANT RECIPIENTS
Eight $10,000 Grant Recipients: Allamuchy Township Elementary School; Edith M. Griebling Elementary School; Egg Harbor Township School District; John P. Holland Charter School; Marion P. Thomas Charter School; Morris Avenue Elementary School; Ramtown Elementary School and Thirteenth Avenue Elementary School.
Ten $2,000 Grant Recipients: Bradley Beach Elementary School; Franklin Middle School Hamilton Street Campus; Hazlet Middle School; Memorial Elementary School; Middle Road Elementary School; New Providence High School; Ocean Township Intermediate Middle School; Riverbank Charter School of Excellence; Salem County Career & Technical High School and South Plainfield Middle School.
Proposals were evaluated by an independent Blue-Ribbon Selection Committee. The Sustainable Jersey for Schools grants are intended to help schools make progress toward a sustainable future in general, and specifically toward Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification.
