Sustainable Jersey for Schools Grants & Technical Assistance Programs
Sustainable Jersey for Schools strives to connect participating schools and districts with financial and technical resources to successfully complete actions and make progress towards a sustainable future. To that end, we directly offer multiple competitive grant and technical assistance opportunities funded by program underwriters and partner organizations each year.
Sustainable Jersey for Schools grants not only provide crucial financial support for projects that might otherwise not materialize, but also enable schools to complete actions that contribute toward certification. Review the Actions page for ideas on possible projects. All actions have a Resources section with organizations that can help with project completion.
School Food Waste Pilot Program
Sustainable Jersey is inviting schools to submit an expression of interest to participate in a school food waste pilot program. This program consists of technical assistance in partnership with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Food Waste Team and a $25,000 grant to purchase a composting system for the school building. Learn more here. Expressions of Interest due June 25.
Become an EmPowered School!
Sustainable Jersey is partnering with New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), South Jersey Gas (SJG) and the Alliance to Save Energy (the Alliance) to bring the EmPowered Schools program to 67 schools within the NJNG and SJG service territories. This program, formerly known as PowerSave Schools, engages PK-12 students in saving energy and money in their schools and homes. Learn more here. Since 2009, Sustainable Jersey has awarded $5.9 million in grants to participating municipalities and school districts.
