Join a Sustainable Jersey for Schools Task Force

Sustainable Jersey for Schools is supported by issue-based task forces that help maintain the integrity of the program by researching best practices and applying their collective knowledge and experience to develop new program actions and update existing ones. Task force members include current and retired subject matter experts from academia, the non-profit sector, the business community, and local, county, state, and federal government organizations. It is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with schools throughout New Jersey and meet interesting people committed to advancing sustainable practices and preparing the next generation for the challenges that lie ahead. Active task forces include:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Board Leadership and Planning
  • Digital Schools
  • Energy and Green House Gases
  • Health and Wellness
  • Operations and Maintenance
  • Student Learning
  • Waste Management

Review Action Submissions

Schools applying for certification each year complete over 2,000 action submissions. These submissions are reviewed by subject matter experts and detailed comments are provided. Reviewers are assigned by action to maintain consistency and help build reviewer knowledge of what schools are doing. Applicants are grateful for the guidance provided by reviewers and reviewers are pleased to see actions successfully completed.

Serve on a Grants Selection Committee

Sustainable Jersey for Schools has awarded school districts over $2.2 million in grants to assist schools in completing program actions. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis through three annual cycles per year. Grant recipients are chosen through an independent selection committee for each cycle. Committee members review and score the grant applications through on online application portal and participate in an interactive committee meeting where the applications are discussed, and the grant recipients are determined. It is a great opportunity to learn about interesting school projects, share expertise related to the proposed projects, and help Sustainable Jersey ensure the projects likely to have the most impact and potential for success are selected for funding.
