Sustainable Jersey for Schools is seeking volunteers to help update and develop the program. Do you have expertise in district leadership, student learning, or digital technology? Are you an active or retired educator or district administrator looking to contribute to a worthy cause? Sustainable Jersey for Schools is made possible by people like you. Put your expertise to good use. Join a Sustainable Jersey for Schools task force or the Certification Standards Committee to help guide and encourage schools across the state as they strive to become more sustainable.

Task Forces

Task forces help maintain the integrity of the program by researching best practices and applying their collective knowledge and experience to develop and update program actions - guidance to help schools implement sustainability initiatives.

Serve on a Grants Selection Committee

Sustainable Jersey for Schools has awarded school districts over $2.2 million in grants to assist schools in completing program actions. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis through three annual cycles per year. Grant recipients are chosen through an independent selection committee for each cycle. Committee members review and score the grant applications through on online application portal and participate in an interactive committee meeting where the applications are discussed, and the grant recipients are determined. It is a great opportunity to learn about interesting school projects, share expertise related to the proposed projects, and help Sustainable Jersey ensure the projects likely to have the most impact and potential for success are selected for funding.

Ready to Volunteer or Want to Learn More

Task force and Committee members include experienced practitioners and subject matter experts from preK-12 education, academia, the nonprofit sector, the business community, and local, county, state, and federal government organizations. Task forces and the Certification Standards Committee provide a great opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with schools throughout New Jersey and meet interesting people committed to advancing sustainable practices and preparing the next generation for the challenges that lie ahead.
