Application process now open for grants funded by NJ Department of Health

Sustainable Jersey for Schools announced today that it is accepting grant applications from New Jersey public schools that serve students in middle and high school (including K-8 schools) to support health and wellness initiatives. Funded by the New Jersey Department of Health, the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Small Grants Program will make $120,000 available to schools for this grant application cycle.

“Sustainable schools are healthy schools, and schools that promote health and well-being will see benefits,” said Renee Haider of Sustainable Jersey. “These grants funded by the New Jersey Department of Health will support schools as they tackle important health and wellness program actions.”

Application proposals are being accepted through Thursday, June 29, 2017. Visit the grants page on SustainableJerseySchools.com for the link to the online application. Applicants must be registered in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program which is free and voluntary.

The Sustainable Jersey for Schools Small Grants Program will award thirty $4,000 grants to implement specific health and wellness actions in schools. The grant can be used to implement Sustainable Jersey for Schools actions such as: staff wellness programs, asthma friendly schools, healthy food choices, programs to promote physical activity and more.

The New Jersey Department of Health is funding the grants through its Maternal and Child Health Services Title V Block Grant. Grant recipients can also benefit from guidance provided the Department of Health’s regional partners:  AtlantiCare (south), Empower Somerset (central) and The Center for Prevention and Counseling (north).
